This week on the podcast we have another LIVE sess This week on the podcast we have another LIVE session 4 with Jess and she has just inserted her CGM!

This podcast is a live session where we talk about the importance of supporting your nervous system, detoxification, weight gain and why that might be the case and what it has to do with inflammation.

In this check-in with Jess who has just gotten her continuous blood glucose monitor and is:
- anemic
-hypothyroid with elevated antibodies (we discover this)
- been struggling with periods and hormones
- having low energy
- noticed some weight gain for no real reason
- is also my sister and is ACE…this has no real clinical impact :)

These live session episodes are different because they can give you a little peek into what it actually means to heal your body and apply nutritional science and lifestyle medicine to your body. I think sometimes it can feel like we don’t know how to do this and if we ever feel a bit unsure about something, we tend to not want to go and do it.

And I'm guessing you want to feel better because there's some area of your life.
Maybe it's a diagnosis, maybe you've just got symptoms where you are being told that everything is fine in your health but you don't feel fine.
You want to feel better and I know that you can - there is always room for improvement.

And I am confident that you can feel better than you do right now. It’s just simple science.

Should you listen to your cravings? Like what if y Should you listen to your cravings? Like what if you crave cupcakes, doughnuts or ketchup sandwiches (a fav of mine growing up!). 🍩 🧁 🍕

Here are my 5 thoughts on cravings:

1. Cravings often MEAN something. Craving a doughnut? Chances are your blood sugar is low and your insulin is out of balance. Craving chocolate? Chances are you need more magnesium. Craving crisps? You might be low in electrolytes like sodium, potassium etc.

2. Also, you might just be craving a doughnut because you want a doughnut. End of.

3. Women often beat themselves up SO MUCH about their cravings. This is pointless. Give yourself permission to crave what you crave.

4. Answer your cravings...with wisdom and nutrient density. So you're cravings chips? Then make your own with quality fats and top it off with some awesome grey sea salt and homemade mayo. You want cake? Make some with tip-top ingredients and healthy fat and natural sweeteners.

5. Get to the ROOT if it. If your gut microbiome is out of whack you'll crave more sugar. If your digestion is poor, you may just want to eat carbs (cos you struggle to digest fats and protein). If you crave juice or sweet drinks, add in more fat and protein to your diet. If you crave sugar or booze when you're stressed or sad - deal with the sadness and stress - don't eat or drink your way through it.

This picture is me having just bought some fresh 100% orange juice. Fruit juice, even fresh, is generally a no-no for me as it's just pure sugar and I still have to work hard at balancing my insulin. But it was hot, I'd been for a run and it just felt FUN to watch the juice machine go round and round. So I did. And it was great.

Your cravings MEAN SOMETHING. So listen.
-
What is your biggest craving right now?
What is the one thing that is going to improve you What is the one thing that is going to improve your energy, mood, skin, body fat %, sleep, sugar cravings and longevity (other than spending time in nature?!-)
What one thing that we know through research is going to make a MASSIVE impact? (Not just some faddy thing marketed to you - what is actually clear in the data!)

>>>Your gut health. Your digestion. You gut microbiome.
(All meaning the same thing FYI)

It really is one of the most strategic things to improve, cos when you improve this you improve EVERYTHING! Your skin, energy, mood and sleep without 'trying hard'.

So if you are struggling with ANY of the following join me in TONIGHTS Summer Workshop where I am going to give you a clear roadmap for improving your gut microbiome - without too much faff or overwhelm.
-bloating
-fatigue
-poor sleep
-any type of skin issues
-thrush
-constipation
-loose stools
-bowels that swing between all the things
-pain in stomach
-autoimmune condition
-inability to gain or lose weight
-anxiety
-depression
-low mood
-afternoon energy slumps
-awful hormones
...I could go on but this is just a snapshot of the impact your gut has on every other system.
So if you want to know exactly what to do to support your gut health - join me TONIGHT - Monday 27th June for my How to eat IBS & Bloating Workshop

Head to link in my bio for sign-up info and it costs as little as £11 to join! It will be a small group workshop so you will leave with such a clear plan of action that i know is going to help you create a happier flatter belly ASAP!

I KNOW that this workshop will be so worth your time and money - learning about how to improve your gut health is one of the greatest gifts you can gift yourself both now and for the 'future' you. I am SO glad I gave myself (and my kids) the gift of better gut health - it makes my life now SO MUCH EASIER!
Replay will be provided too so it's not too late to sign up ;)
It's ok.

It's normal.

But it doesn’t mean it’s 100% true.

And if things haven't worked for you before my love it will be because you either:

Were solving the right problem

and/or

You struggled to implement the strategy

It's not because you are beyond help, lack self-control, willpower or discipline. It's not because you failed or because it's pointless to try.

It will just be one of the above or both.

Change is possible for you but there is nothing WRONG with you if nothing has helped so far - ok?
How I said goodbye to IBS & bloating for GOOD. Ev How I said goodbye to IBS & bloating for GOOD.

Ever wish you could go in a time machine and give yourself some advice?

I would certainly tell my younger self to stop worrying so much about weight and clothes size.

And I would tell myself the REAL reason I had IBS...and tell myself to go work with a holistic nutritionist ASAP (and that it would be the best investment I will ever make!)

IBS completely eroded my self-confidence, self-esteem and limited my life and I was told there was nothing I could do.

And are you ready for TMI?

I was tired, diagnosed depressed, constantly anxious, bloated and pregnant looking every day, had hormonal issues, IBS and chronic diarrhea that often caused incontinence (a bit of a confidence killer no?). Doctors tested me, thinking I had Chron's or Celiac disease but turned out everything was ‘normal’. I was so grateful and frustrated. Everyone told me I was fine but I didn’t feel fine.

But the thing was, I had big dreams but I knew that I couldn’t do that if I was sad, sick and stuck on the loo.

I just wanted to live my life! And my health was getting in the way of that.

So, I decided that I was done with waiting for someone else to create a magic pill to fix me. I was going to heal…I just needed to find out how!

And I started with my GUT.

And to cut a long story short - now age 34 IBS is not a part of my life.

I have also had the joy of helping countless clients leave their own IBS behind and I want to share this with you - IBS, bloating, or digestive issues don't need to rule your life.

And if you didn't hear - I am running x4 Summer Workshops and the first one is How to Beat IBS & Bloating - how to create a healthier flatter belly.

Basically, it's going to be gut health 101 - so while it's aimed at those with gut symptoms - EVERYONE would benefit from improving their gut health. I am going to share with you my Gut Health Roadmap.

For me ditching IBS is a total no-brainer - I actually feel excited when a client comes to me with gut issues cos I am SO CERTAIN they can improve and see results.

It's THIS MONDAY so sign up (links in bio) - you can join this workshop OR sign up for the workshop bundle and access them all
Your body is one whole system. Your body is one whole system.
Fear is totally normal. And fear is definitely goi Fear is totally normal. And fear is definitely going to show up when you want to create change. When you want to feel different, do things differently.
But when it comes to our body or our food we can sometimes be derailed by the fear. We think that because I feel scared or I fear it won't work or I am scared to invest in something - then it's not the right thing.

So I just wanted to NORMALISE the fear.

If you are wanting to shift any aspect of your health - big or small - you will feel afraid at times.

This is ok. It's not bad - in fact is logical and expected.

And knowing that, expecting it can make a world of difference

(I talk about this more in this week's podcast so listen via the link in my profile or search for The Gut Goddess Show in iTunes)

Recently I have been leaning into and realising on Recently I have been leaning into and realising on a whole new level how disconnected we are from our bodies.

How we are set up to have a dysfunctional relationship with our physical bodies. This shows up in diet culture, our health system, the way we eat, disordered eating in all its forms, the rising level of obesity, mental health issues, diabetes, cancer ...I could go on.

If you look at the stats of how our health and well-being (and that of our children - but that is a WHOLE other topic!) it doesn't look great as while we might be living longer the rate of dis-ease is increasing.

Now of course there are MANY issues for this - so many but one that I have been noticing more and more is this:

Investing money, time, and energy into your health is seen as an optional extra.

Paying to go to therapy weekly, working with me, getting a cleaner to reduce your stress level or investing your time in making food from scratch, or going do 30 mins of exercise are often seen as EXTRAS. Nice to haves. Optional. Fancy...POSH even.

Yet... we are used to and happier to invest in the latest smartphone, tablets, laptops, cars, holidays, house decorations, nights out, or wine than we are to investing in our health.

Said another way - we are used to investing in technology and holidays. It's more 'normal'. We are used to it.

But often it feels uncomfortable and hard when it comes to investing in YOUR own body (you probably find it way easier to invest in your partner, kids, and pets' health than you do your own - am I right?)

But I will offer a different perspective in this week's podcast.
Cos I LOVE everything on that list - I do. I like nice holidays, I love having an up to date ish iPhone, I have a car, and I will spend more on biodynamic wine if given the option.

But MY BODY is my life.

It's how I hug and love and spend tie with my kids and loved one.

It's how I see and care for friends.

Its the vehicle for social justice, political change and community service.

It's the reason I am able to earn money and create wealth.

It's my gift to the world - the way I serve, care for and help others.

It's the way I live here on earth.
