When to Eat Breakfast & A Chocolate Superfood Cereal Recipe

Getting a good breakfast is pretty essential for an energy pumped day. But often life is busy, alarms are slept through and breakfast can easily become the last thing on our list of things to do before we leave the house.

Now breakfast is important but it doesn’t need to be massive. In the past I have tried to adhere to the whole ‘breakfast like a king thing’ and stock up for the day but to be honest, massive breakfasts leave me sluggish and not exactly raring to go. Recently I have been experimenting with smaller simpler breakfasts ( like green smoothies, juices or granola like this) and am finding they are giving me far more energy.

There is also a question of timing when it comes for breakfast. Do you have it as soon as you get up, after an hour or when you feel hungry? I personally think that you should eat breakfast a while after you have woken up (I normally leave it two hours on average) and eat only when I am hungry.

When we wake up our bodies are still finishing up the cleansing/healing process it goes through at night. You will have hopefully noticed by now that you wake up smelly, with a furry mouth, bad breath and needing the toilet. That’s partly because when we sleep our bodies are cleansing, healing and resting and removing toxins. Yes you can go on detox’s that will benefit your body but you body is the ultimate detoxify machine.

So when it comes to breakfast I thinks it best to ease your body into digestion and start the day gently.  Leave eating as long as you can before

switching your body from ‘cleansing mode’ to ‘digesting mode’. For example I normally get up at 6.30 but won’t eat breakfast until anywhere between 8.30-9.30am, I just drink loads of water and lemon during this period and take my probiotics.

Hence this awesome recipe. It is quick, tasty, contains chocolate (always a winner) and is as easy as pouring cereal from a box but a million times better for you. You don’t need much of it to fill you up, you can mix it together in advance so it always to hand and is jam packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It’s going to energise your day!

Feel free to switch in your favourite nut or dried berry, but as it is this really is one superfood breakfast that is ready in a flash. I eat mine with homemade almond milk – delish.

If you didn't know already I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with coffee.   I love it, my gut and body historically have hated it. But all in all, I am a total coffee snob and fiend.   And there is nothing that screams Christmas more than a SEASONAL...

  1. Hi Kezia,

I have heard in the past from various sources that eating breakfast within an hour of getting up ensures that your metabolism reaches it’s peak during the day. The implication being that if you don’t your metabolism will be slower. Is this truth or trash?
